Le Mont Saint Michel
We left at 7:30 am on Thursday for le Mont Saint Michel, unique among France's many architectural gems.We wanted to be among the first visitors of the day because as one of the most popular tourist sites, it can get very crowded as the day goes on. When we arrived there were not many people at all, and we fairly quickly made our way through the ever-steeper winding streets until we reached the stairs that led to the entrance of the abbey, which sits atop the island. We toured the abbey together and then enjoyed some free time for souvenir shopping and soaking up the magical atmosphere of the tiny medieval streets. Following our visit, we had a picnic on the grass before leaving for our next destination: Bayeux.
