Fun in the Sun, Sports/Art, and the Fête de la Musique


We had an optional activity this weekend at a beach not far from Saint Brieuc.  Families brought blankets, games, and a picnic, and we spent a few hours together walking, playing, and chatting.  The weather was beautiful! And although the water was a bit cold, some brave souls took a dip anyway. 

Back at school on Monday, the students started their second week of classes.  After school, we did sports, music, and art this week.  Included below are some pictures from our after school activities this week.






















Yesterday was the Fête de la Musique -- a live music festival celebrated all over France with every type of music played in squares and streets all over French cities.  Saint Brieuc was no exception! Two teachers decided to check out the festivities and ran into some of our stagiaires out with their families enjoying this special night. 




Excited for our first excursion tomorrow to Dinan, Dinard, and St. Malo!!

Bonjour from Saint-Brieuc!! We've only been here about 48 hours at this point, but we've done so much already!  After arriving at the airport in the early afternoon on Thursday, we boarded our bus and headed to the beautiful village of Chartres.  We enjoyed a short tour of the magnificent cathedral, followed by a picnic of sandwiches, chips, and chocolate éclairs outside the church.  Then it was back to the bus for our trip to Saint-Brieuc. First week of classes

After a weekend with their host families, students arrived on Monday morning ready for their first day of classes.  They attend classes in smaller groups of 7-8 students, but everyone has the same classes: Linguistics and Pronunciation, Grammar and Communication, and Culture and Literature.  After morning announcements, we head upstairs to our three classrooms and start our day.   We have two classes in the morning before heading down to the dining room. Lunch at the Igloo is cafeteria-style, and the instructors have already received compliments on how polite and well-mannered our IUHPFL students are! Although not as long as some French lunches, it is nice to have a relaxed 65 minutes to relax a bit mid-day.  :) After lunch, it's time for the last class of the day, followed by activities ranging from music and art to theater and sports. Hope you enjoy this glimpse of the last days of IUHPFL Saint Brieuc 2023!  We spent much of the last week getting ready for the Farewell show, the Program Magazine, and our trip to Paris.   The Farewell Show This is such an incredibly talented and creative group, and the host families were absolutely wowed by the student performances!  We can't wait for them to see the original artwork, poetry, open letters, and pages of pure fun in the magazine that the students created.  As a preview, though, here is the cover for Wednesday night's show with calligraphy by Sophia and artwork by Ana -- all completed in a short 20 minutes.  😳 The show was absolutely amazing, and the host families commented on how impressed they were not only by how talented the students were, but also their willingness to share those talents in front of an audience. ...
